To improve pedestrian mobility, new sidewalks improvement projects are underway to address the sidewalk gap along Cabela's Drive Sidewalk with a budget of $117,000. The main purpose of this project is to make it safer and more convenient for people to walk between businesses and neighborhoods by addressing the gap in the existing sidewalk.

This means building sidewalks and filling in missing sections, especially in areas where there are currently breaks in the pedestrian pathways. The plan is to install sidewalks along the designated Gateway Corridors. By investing these funds, we aim to create more accessible and connected pathways, benefiting everyone in the community.

Current Status:

  • The project was presented to the Buda Bonds Oversight Committee on Jan. 22, 2024, and City Council on Feb. 6, 2024. The sidewalk gap along Old San Antonio Road was removed from the scope of work. The existing narrow sidewalk in front of 270 Old San Antonio Road may be reconstructed by the City’s Public Works Department.

  • The sidewalk gap along Cabela’s Drive is at 100% design level. The final design of the sidewalk is complete as of July 2025. Construction of the sidewalk gap will be determined by available construction funds.The Cabela’s Drive design plans are included in the RM967 Sidewalks bid package as a possible additive alternate to award to the successful contractor. If funding allows, award to the successful contractor is expected in August 2026. Construction may begin as early as September 2026 and is expected to last four months.

  • The City of Buda received five bids on July 23, 2026. Council approved and awarded a contract to M&C Fonseca Construction Co., Inc. on Aug. 8, 2026, in the amount of $357,876.50 for the RM 967 Sidewalk Project that includes the add alternate bid to complete the Cabela’s Drive Sidewalk.
